Let’s face it. Hotels and B&B's are not typically very environmentally friendly places. All those sheets that need washing, single use plastic shampoo bottles that never have quite enough in them, those horrible little milk containers that no one likes and towels used just because they are there.... all adds up to a fairly unsustainable environmentally-unfriendly practice. In our small way we try and do as much as possible by consciously planning ways to lessen our environmental impact. So we aim to Reduce, Re-use, Repair and Recycle as much as we can to minimise the environmental impact of our business
Things like paperless billing, no single use plastics, avoiding mini shampoo and shower gels and instead buy in bulk from Welsh social enterprises Good Wash and Myddfai to avoid plastic waste, and encouraging customers to only use towels where necessary
Reducing single plastic containers of cereal, butter, and jam at your breakfast buffet and using glass containers instead. Breakfasts are vegetarian and vegan as much as possible
I've never bought bottled water in my life and wont start now, so please dont expect small plastic water bottles in the fridge . Swansea tap water is pretty tasty. If you need ice though just ask :) feel free to borrow one of our many reusable sports bottles or coffee cups
Much of the furniture is second hand off ebay, local dealers or Facebook marketplace, upcycled or vintage while some of the paint has come from the local recycling centre . We also have a thriving compost heap and are currently building a bug hotel and butterfly B&B for our small friends to help biodiversity. Our big pondlife goal is to attract a toad. We receive all our energy from the Gower Electric Company (partnered with Ecotricity), a local community green energy cooperative and eventually intend to go fully 100% renewable energy through solar power and install an EV charging point
RECYCLE
All our glass, paper, cardboard, plastic waste, tins, juice cartons , wood (as fuel), metal (local scrapman) gets recycled. Rainwater gets reused in the garden from our water butt.
We are continually looking to improve, firstly, on not consuming in the first place but if so how to recycle as much as possible and leave as small an ecological footprint as possible
LOCALS ONLY!!!
We try to keep our food miles as low as possible. Fruit, veg and dairy come from local supplers in Swansea and Gower. Coffee, spirits beer and cider comes from South wales with the odd guest beer from elsewhere in the UK. Cockles and laverbread from Selwyns in the Gower, picked up with our own bike power. If we can get whatever we need from within a 1 mile radius then we will.
We also work with national and local organisations to improve cycling and walking infrastructure and promote active travel in and around Swansea
Save energy. Turn off lights & appliances when you're not using them or when when you leave your room. Close your window when the heating is on, put on a jumper instead or turn it down when you go to bed.
Slow travel. Leave the car in the drive and take a bike or walk. We're lucky to have THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COASTLINE IN BRITAIN on our doorstep.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle as much as you can. Borrow a tote bag, use one of our water bottles or coffee cup. Avoid as much packaging as you can. If you do, please try and keep it clean so we are able to recycle as much as we can
Be water wise. Shower with your partner, have a cold one, go all Wim Hof and feel the benefits of cold water immersion, turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, leave the shower before you turn into a prune and re-use your towels.
Thank you!! 😃
Its early days but we are looking to formally meet Green Tourism's standard to be recognised as a sustainable accommodation provider. This internationally recognised award covers such areas as waste, water, sustainable travel, biodiversity and well being
